During a great day at the Midlands Baby Carrying Convention in May I was lucky enough to meet the lovely Jess – founder and designer at the relatively new UK-based company Supu Woven Wraps. As a fellow enthusiast for textiles, babywearing and wrapping we got chatting and I ended up coming home with a striking Flight – Teal Storm wrap to review.
Supu’s Flight wraps are woven on both teal and ecru warps creating quite different looks from the eye-catching peacock feather design. The size 6 Flight tester quickly became my husband’s wrap of choice and compliments abounded whenever we went out and about with this wrap in tow. It looks great on the shelf, but the photos show that the design really sings when wrapped.
At 290 GSM (grams per square metre) the wrap weighs in towards the heavier end of a mid-weight wrap. Because of this it has a good level of cush (comfort on the shoulders), but the nature of the weave means that it feels much thinner in hand. This makes it easy to wrap with and the twill elements of the weave give it a nice level of diagonal stretch – even quick wrap jobs end up comfy and snug.
Flight would make a great wrap for both beginners and more experienced wrappers – the design has a good balance of grip and glide: the wrap does what you ask it to and doesn’t move once in place. These qualities are a testament to a wrap design that delivers much more than beautiful aesthetics. We’d have been very happy to keep this among our stash.
As coincidence would have it I also got to try a friend’s Flight – Teal Blaze ring sling a few weeks ago. This was similarly beautiful, wrapped snugly and didn’t slip an inch.
This striking wrap would be great for anyone wanting a wrap for all occasions – it’s beautiful, comfortable, easy to use and, in pull-resistant 100% cotton, extremely easy to care for. This wrap would be as at home at a wedding as on the school run. Recommended!
